Why I Write Build Logs

Each Sunday, I write a Build Log - essentially a summary of what I'm working on and thinking about for the week. I write this format for a number of reasons:

To connect with people who are working on or thinking about similar topics: since sharing what I'm working on, I've organically connected with many people working in the same or adjacent spaces, through the beauty of the Internet.
To stay accountable: when working for yourself, when the company is at the earliest of stages with no other stakeholders, the only person you're accountable to is yourself. Sending a weekly update is a small but helpful motivator to make each week a productive one.
To build a writing habit: I've found writing a great way to clarify thoughts, and just having the weekly cadence of writing a post (at a minimum) has been useful to continually look for ways to improve my writing.
To find inspiration: I often look to the work of others in my field and in related fields to find ideas, inspiration, and new ways of thinking. I also read books, listen to podcasts, and attend conferences to stay up to date on the latest trends and developments. I find that when I'm actively seeking out new ideas, it helps to keep my work fresh and exciting. Writing about these learnings acts as a useful way to consolidate them.
Reflection and analysis of progress: I also use my Build Logs to reflect on my progress. Each week I take a look back to see how far I've come, and think about what I could have done differently. I also use this time to think about what I want to achieve in the upcoming week and how I can go about doing that. Writing these reflections down helps me to stay focused and motivated to keep pushing forward.
Time capsule of learnings and mistakes: it's useful to have a place I can revisit to remind myself of past mistakes and learnings, to ensure I don't repeat them again. Writing a weekly public post is a useful way to extract the most important information from the week, and put it in a place that will be easily findable in years to come.
